Government technology contractor EDS has landed a $179 million contract with the Pentagon's Defense Manpower Data Center (DMDC), the company announced today.

The contract involves technology support services for the DMDC, the Department of Defense office best known for managing defense employee identities and data on employees' benefits. The DMDC was the nexus of operations for the Common Access Card (CAC) and has played an influential role in the HSPD-12 process of creating unified government access control card standards. The DMDC also coordinates employee background vetting and level assignments for physical and network access.

According to EDS, the company will provide personnel to deploy and manage "the newest technologies, systems and application software to ensure the security and integrity of DMDC systems." Much of that focus will be on HSPD-12 compliance and implementation and with the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) database, a database central to the DMDC's operations.
